Mahjong Trip Co retreat in Mexico

Mahjong Trips & Retreats in Mexico

Whether you’ve already got a mahjong crew ready to travel or you’re looking to join a group of fellow tile-lovers, we plan mahjong trips, vacations, and retreats built for connection, competition, and a little well-earned relaxation. From beachfront resorts to all-inclusive properties made for exactly this — we handle the logistics so you can focus on the game.

What is a mahjong retreat?

A mahjong retreat is a planned group getaway built around the game — usually at a beachfront or all-inclusive resort — where players come together for dedicated table time, a shared destination, and a little downtime in between hands. Unlike a regular vacation with a game night tacked on, a mahjong retreat is designed around the game from the start: real space to play, a group of fellow tile-lovers, and all the logistics (room blocks, dining, activities) handled so you can just show up and play. Whether you’re joining solo to meet new tile friends or bringing your whole group, a mahjong retreat turns a favorite pastime into a full getaway.

American Mahjong

Beginners are always welcome — you just need to know the basics before you arrive. These retreats are built to be friendly and low-pressure, with plenty of time for casual play and a little friendly competition.

Two Ways to Retreat

Option 1: Let Us Plan Your Group's Mahjong Trip

Already have a mahjong club, a standing game night crew, or a group of friends who’d rather build a wall on a beach than at someone’s kitchen table? We’ll plan a private, custom mahjong vacation just for your group — your dates, your destination, your vibe.

What’s included:

  • A destination and resort matched to your group’s size, budget, and style
  • Group rate negotiation and room block management
  • Full logistics: transfers, dining, activities, and game space
  • One point of contact from first call to final tile

Option 2: Join One of Our Mahjong Retreats in Mexico

Don’t have a group of your own, or just want to meet new tile friends? Join one of our curated mahjong retreats. Every detail is planned, every seat is open, and every trip is designed for connection as much as competition.

Registration information for each event is listed below.

Answering Your Questions:

Mahjong Trip Co. FAQs

We encourage you to travel with your own set whenever possible on any Mahjong Trip Co retreat. Each specific getaway will have information on what to pack (and what incentives there are for bringing your own tiles).

For our retreats, we encourage a water-friendly set. We like to play at the beach, in the pool, and with Diet Cokes or margaritas in hand.

Yes, in order to be a part of our events, eligible for merch, and included in all our resort activities- you’ll have to be on the official list and booked with the group.

The cost of the room will be dependent on what room you book. When you request more information on a specific mahjong trip, we’ll have pricing available for you.

The cost of the event will be listed on each registration page.

Want more help? We’re happy to offer you some quotes and help you with the booking process.

At this time, we always play American with the current NAMJL card.

If you’d like to setup your own group, we can set the group to play whatever style you prefer.

Be the First to Hear

Want the inside scoop before anyone else? Get on the list. This is where retreat announcements, new destinations, and all the good stuff happen first — no scrolling through social media hoping you didn’t miss it.

First dibs, always. New retreats and open dates go to the list before they go anywhere else.

Behind-the-scenes access. Venue scouting, room reveals, and the real planning process — not just the polished final photos.

A say in what’s next. We poll the list on future destinations and themes, so the retreats you want are the ones we book.

Retreat recaps. Photos, highlights, and the moments you’ll want in on next time.

Meet Laura

Sunshine is my love language, and I’m convinced I function better with a tan. I’m an avid mahjong player and firmly believe the second most important rule of the game (right after no jokers in a pair, of course) is to always give a “cheers!” for a Bird Bam. It’s just good etiquette.

Meet Becky

I’ll admit it — I’m still fairly new to mahjong. But I’m falling hard and fast, and there’s no slowing this down. Between learning the tiles and realizing just how perfectly they pair with a margarita and a plate of fresh guac, I’m all in. Turns out combining two things I love — travel and a game that’s equal parts strategy and social — was only a matter of time.
