Is an Excellence or Finest Wedding for you?

Excellence and Finest resorts are consistently among my clients’ favorites for destination weddings—and it’s easy to see why. From the stunning ceremony locations to the all-inclusive experience that keeps guests happy from arrival to departure, these properties deliver in a way that few resort brands can match. If you’re considering Excellence or Finest for your wedding, I’ve put together the information below to help you figure out if it’s the right fit for your vision, your guests, and your budget.

Excellence vs. Finest: Which Is Right for Your Wedding?

Here’s the short version: Excellence resorts are adults-only, and Finest resorts welcome the whole family. That one detail tends to make the decision for most couples before anything else does.

If you’re picturing an intimate, elevated celebration where every guest is there for the party — no kids running through your reception, quiet pools, a more romantic pace — Excellence is your lane. Excellence Riviera Cancun and Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres both deliver that vibe beautifully, and I’ve planned weddings at both.

If your guest list includes nieces, nephews, or your own future kids running around in their flower girl dress until 9pm, Finest is built for that. Finest Playa Mujeres is the standout here — same Excellence Collection polish, family-friendly room categories, and venues that work whether your group is 20 or 120.

Neither one is the “better” choice. They’re built for different guest lists, and the right one depends on who’s actually going to be standing next to you on your wedding day.

Hi! I'm Becky

Excellence and Finest Brand Weddings are my Specialty.

As your dedicated Cancun destination wedding specialist, I personally travel to the area multiple times annually to inspect venues, meet with wedding coordinators, and maintain the relationships that ensure my couples receive exceptional service and value beyond what they could arrange independently.

Why Couples are Hiring Me:

I've Been There

I don’t recommend properties from a brochure.

I’ve walked the ceremony venues, sat through the receptions, and seen firsthand which packages actually deliver versus which ones look better in photos than in person.

Excellence Requires a Specialist

The Excellence Collection books and handles weddings differently from every other resort. Just because someone knows weddings doesn’t mean they know Excellence weddings.

Answering Your Planning Questions:

Excellence & Finest Wedding FAQs

No, a room block (or deposit) will not be required when setting up your wedding group. Room blocks are great for some, and work against others.

You can read up on room blocks: HERE.

Technically, no. But I would never recommend you go without AT LEAST a travel agent. Let someone else handle the travel logistics for your guests.

If your budget allows, hiring a wedding specialist will absolutely help you SAVE money and understand the process of weddings with Excellence.

I charge a planning fee for destination wedding coordination—I’m upfront about that. What you’re getting is someone who has personally visited these properties, knows the wedding teams, manages your guest room block, and handles the details that would otherwise fall on you. Most couples tell me it’s one of the best investments they made in the whole planning process.

Most couples book 12–18 months out, especially for peak season dates between November and April. Popular ceremony venues and wedding weekends fill quickly. If you have a specific date or location in mind, earlier is always better.

Yes. Once you’re booked, the resort assigns an on-site wedding coordinator who manages day-of logistics. I work alongside them from the planning side—so you have both resort-side and agent-side support throughout the entire process.

In Mexico, the Excellence Collection includes Excellence Riviera Cancun, Excellence Playa Mujeres, and Excellence Coral in the Playa Mujeres corridor. There is also Finest Playa Mujeres and Finest Riviera Maya (coming soon). Beloved is the brand’s couples only resort.

Each has its own personality, beach, and wedding experience—so choosing the right property is just as important as choosing the brand.
